At Phoenix Siding, we provide Vancouver Island with quality, professional, and timely service when it comes to home renovations. And as part of our goal to make your visions a reality, we provide tips on how to keep your home in top form. If you’re looking to maximize the lifespan of your siding, it’s imperative to keep it clean and free of grime. Plus, washing your house’s siding helps to brighten the overall appearance of your estate. It’s recommended to bath your siding about once a year (or as often as the weather dirties everything!). Spring is one of the best times of year to do a good thorough cleaning along with everything else. Here are a couple simple steps to help you show off your house’s stunning personality.
Hose it down
Taking care of most of your unwanted dirt, this step is pretty self-explanatory. A pressure nozzle attached to an ordinary garden hose is generally enough to get the job done. And although vinyl siding can handle almost anything the weather throws at it, if you own a pressure washer, use caution. Prolonged exposure to high-pressure washing can cause some damage.
The recommended motion of washing is from bottom to top. Once you reach the top, work your way back down to spot-check as you go during your final rinse. This method is best to prevent streaking. Because spraying upwards can actually sneak moisture up into the siding which can be harmful and may be harmful, we suggest shooting the nozzle at eye level and no higher.
Wipe it down
For smaller problem spots, or maybe your siding needs a little bit of extra care, good old housecleaner and a rag can work wonders on your siding. If you’ve discovered some areas which may have mold, we recommend 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water to help kill the mold without spreading any harmful spores around. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase a higher-quality cleaning product. If any mold has spread beneath the siding and along the exterior of your house, we recommend getting a professional it to evaluate any damage and repairs as soon as possible in order to protect the health and safety of your home.
Keeping your siding looking neat and clean equates to not only having a nicer looking home, but extending the lifespan of your siding. Just as you might wax a car, sometimes our homes need a tender hand also.
